Which Palm Is For Me?
If you've made it this far, you probably are interested in using technology to enhance
your hobby. I'm sure you are aware that there are many devices other than the Palm that
can do the job. I personally own a Palm III and have found it's combination of features,
battery life, and availability of third-party support and applications to be excellent.
Other people may favor the more expensive Windows CE or Psion machines, but I cannot
address those, as I am only familiar with the Palm line.
The new Palm M100 is functionally equivalent to my old two meg RAM Palm III, but with a
better screen, sturdier flip-top case, and much better price. At $150, you can't beat it's
value. The prices on the Palm line go up from there. If you want more memory, consider the
eight meg Palm IIIxe. If you want a color screen, try out the Palm IIIc. If you desire a
sleeker, thinner version, try the Palm V or Vx. Finally, if you want built in wireless
functionality, take a look at the Palm VII. Palm seems to have gone to great lengths to
ensure there is a Palm device to suite every budget and personality. I have no doubt that
once you start using a Palm handheld computer in conjunction with your hobby, you will
wonder how you ever managed without it.
If you have any questions about using a Palm to enhance your pigeon hobby that I did not
answer here, or if you'd like more details about my setup, please drop me a line at redd@interbug.com.
