How To Create Lyra Screen BIT Designs

Creating custom splash screens for the RCA/Thompson Lyra Portable MP3 Player is easy.

What you'll need:

The Lyra Splash Screen Bit Viewer available here. Special thanks to Sam Thomas and Jeff Sauer (jeff_sauer@hotmail.com) for creating the Lyra Splash Screen Bit Viewer utility.
You may also need this comdlg32.ocx file.

A Windows Bitmap (BMP) editor. The standard Windows Paint editor will do in most cases. For advanced functions like contrast enhancement, try Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.

What to do:

Download this template bitmap:

Using this template will ensure that you get an image with the correct dimensions (96 x 48 pixels).
Edit the bitmap to create your own design. Here's where you can let your creativity shine. Make sure to save the image as a BMP file.

Run the bitviewer.exe. It should look like this:

Use the standard File | Open dialog box to open up the template.bmp file. It should looks something like this:

Of course, in this example, I didn't change the template.bmp image at all.

You are now ready to import your new BIT file into your Lyra's Compact Flash card. Your designs are also welcome in the RCA Lyra Splash Screen Archive.
